A priori knowledge is the entrepreneur's starting operating system. It contains both the strengths (pattern recognition, domain expertise) and the liabilities (unchallenged assumptions, cognitive bias). Identify three people: one current customer, one potential customer, one who said no. Contact them directly — no AI-drafted outreach.

Conduct each conversation with a single opening question only: "What's the hardest part of [the problem you're solving] right now?" Then listen.

After each conversation, write for 5 minutes without editing: what you heard, what surprised you, what you felt.

AI resolves contradiction by averaging. Entrepreneurs grow by wrestling with it. This exercise forces the founder to hold two opposing truths simultaneously — a cognitive muscle that AI delegation destroys.

Identify one contradiction from your descent: two things you observed or heard that cannot both be true — but seem to be.
2.
Write both sides fully, as persuasively as you can: "On one hand… On the other hand…"
3.
Sit with the tension for at least 10 minutes. Do not resolve it. Do not look it up. Breathe into the discomfort.
4.
Write what emerges: "What this tension is pointing to is…"
5.
Bring this exact contradiction into Phase 2 of the 842 Loop as JTBD framing material.
III
Stage III — The Ascent
Human-First Testing
The entrepreneur builds the hypothesis before AI refines it. Assets are gathered by human hands before AI amplifies them.
Atrophy Risk at This Stage
If the JTBD list, priority ranking, and batch actions come entirely from AI, the entrepreneur never develops the discernment to know which jobs matter most. They become consumers of prioritized lists rather than makers of strategic judgment. Over time they cannot prioritize without a prompt.

VVOP as Customer Development Discipline:
The Ascent is where a priori assumptions about customers collide with a posteriori evidence from the descent. VVOP makes this collision explicit and productive. The Human JTBD Draft IS the Vet step — the entrepreneur names what they believe before seeing any AI output. The Peer Pressure Test IS the Organize + Pivot step.

The 842 Loop's Phase 2 generates 8 JTBDs. This exercise ensures the entrepreneur's version exists first — as a human document — before AI outputs are revealed. The comparison is the reinforcement mechanism.

Based only on your raw conversation notes and contradiction work, write 8 jobs. Each begins with "The customer needs to…" or "The business must…"
2.
Do not edit. Write all 8 even if you are uncertain. Uncertainty is data.
3.
After the AI phase generates its JTBD list, compare. Circle: (a) what you caught that AI missed, (b) what AI caught that you missed, (c) what you disagree on.
4.
Your disagreements are your most important learning. They reveal either blind spots or genuine strategic insight the AI cannot access.
RLHF Mechanism: The human JTBD list is the feedback signal. AI generates one version; the entrepreneur generates another. The final list should be a negotiation between the two — not a replacement of the human by the machine.

Strategic judgment is built by having to defend your thinking to another human who has no obligation to agree. This is H2H (Human-to-Human) reinforcement — the Network of Trusts in action.

Share your Top 4 JTBD priorities with one peer entrepreneur — verbally, without AI output visible.

The peer's role: "Ask me why for each one." For every JTBD you name, the peer asks: "Why does this matter more than the others?"
3.
You must answer without saying "because the AI ranked it that way." You must have your own reasoning.
4.
After the session, note: did any priority change because of the conversation? If yes — that is your connectome growing.

Stage IV — Unify
Integration Without Assistance
All loops — human and AI — are synthesized by the entrepreneur alone into a coherent new state of thinking.
Atrophy Risk at This Stage
Unification is the most cognitively demanding arc. If AI performs the synthesis — restating hypotheses, generating the session report, drawing conclusions — the entrepreneur never develops the capacity to hold the full picture in their own mind. The connectome never achieves its integrated state. The innovation epoch stays fragmented.
VVOP Applied at Stage IV — Unify
VVOP as Integration Protocol:
Unification without VVOP produces a synthesis that sounds coherent but hasn't been stress-tested. The Pivot column at Stage IV is the most important: if nothing pivoted across the entire loop, the coevolution was performative. Real learning always produces at least one genuine pivot — in assumption, customer, model, or self-understanding.

The Innovator's Journey operates within an ecosystem of trusts — Government, Industry, Academic, Peer, and Entrepreneurial Networks. Unification is not just internal synthesis; it must be tested against the network. This exercise activates one trust node per loop cycle.

Identify which trust node is most relevant to your current loop: Who in your ecosystem needs to hear your new hypothesis?
2.
Share your Human Synthesis Statement — not the AI report — with one person in that node. A mentor, a customer, a peer, an advisor.
3.
Ask only: "What did I miss? What do you see that I don't?"
4.
Document their response as an input to the next loop's Phase 1 — this is the human feedback that seeds the next coevolution cycle.
V
Stage V — The Return
The Hero Test
Every quarter, the entrepreneur proves the coevolution was real by running a full 842 Loop without any AI. This is the RLHF moment — human feedback on the human system.
The Anti-Atrophy Proof
The Return is not a graduation — it is a quarterly test. If the entrepreneur cannot complete the 842 Loop without AI, the coevolution is not real. They have accumulated dependency, not capability. The hero returns from the journey having grown. If they cannot demonstrate the growth unaided, the journey was not completed.
